Buckle up, the 1st of 4 new series starts this week!

Today I’m announcing four new series that I’ll unveil here and via my social channels over the next few months. The first series, Abandoned Americana, will run throughout April. This series features images of America’s abandoned past. From farms to fields, I’ll bring you images […]

District 10

District 10

I’ve named this piece after a bit of sci-fi dystopia, as that’s the vibe I get. I’ve had the opportunity to ride a few different train lines into and from the city, and some lines are luckier than others when it comes to the views. […]

White Bark

White Bark

Another shot from a snowshoeing hike a while back. We don’t get many white-barked trees around here. And that’s sad, because they are beautiful.

  • Eaves, Chris (Jan. 25, 2020). White Bark [Photograph]. Elgin, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 20mm, 1/80 sec., f8 at ISO50.
Around and Around

Around and Around

I’m taking a posting break this week as I work on images from two walkabouts I took last week. Here’s a shot from earlier this winter. It snowed this past weekend, so it’s still relevant, at least here in Chicagoland. Eaves, Chris (Jan. 25, 2020). […]

Twin Stacks

Twin Stacks

The final photo in my new image series. Insofar as I know, the building above is the former power building for the Elgin State Hospital, which opened in 1872 as the Northern Illinois Hospital and Asylum for the Insane. The long-exposure gives the foreground a […]

Tree in the Fox

Tree in the Fox

Photo no. 13 in my new 14 image series.

Several of the images in this series have been along the Fox River, and today I’m posting a proper photo of the river.

  • Eaves, Chris (May 20, 2019). Tree in the Fox [Photograph]. Dundee Township, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 16mm, 1/100 sec., f8 at ISO100.

Patrons got early access to the complete series at Patreon. You can see the complete photo series on Patreon now, even if you aren’t a Patron. And as always, you can support me by purchasing art over at MidnightOwl.Gallery.

The Old AE & FRE Line

The Old AE & FRE Line

Photo no. 12 in my new 14 image series. Just your run-of-the-mill winter scene with deer prints and footprints. Well, except for that weird fat rut running down the middle of the trail. The snow that day was that horrid kind of slush that is […]

Passing Through

Passing Through

Photo no. 11 in my new 14 image series. Another photo from my favorite under-the-highway spot, this time looking in the opposite direction. Traffic is fairly frequent on the road here, so it’s just a matter of time before a good subject comes along. Eaves, […]

Nested Bridges, No. 2 and No. 2-alt

Nested Bridges, No. 2 and No. 2-alt

Photo nos. 9 and 10 in my new 14 image series.

Today we revisit a place I’d previously shot back in 2018. In that image, I’d focused on the summer sun’s rays slicing through the symmetry (but not quite perfectly). This winter I went back and took a different approach. In the first version, above, we get the sense of how oppressive eight lanes of highway traffic can be. The alternative cropping and framing, below, focuses less on that feeling and invites you to enter the scene through its asymmetrical presentation.

  • Eaves, Chris (May 20, 2019). Nested Bridges No. 2 [Photograph]. Elgin, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 16mm, 1/80 sec., f8 at ISO800.
  • Eaves, Chris (May 20, 2019). Nested Bridges No. 2, alternate cropping [Photograph]. Elgin, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 16mm, 1/80 sec., f8 at ISO800.

B&W Studies, No. 8

B&W Studies, No. 8

Photo no. 8 in my new 14 image series. This poor tree has gone terminally horizontal. Eaves, Chris (May 20, 2019). B&W Studies, No. 8 [Photograph]. Lisle, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 100mm, 1/800 sec., f6.3 at ISO160. Patrons got early access to […]

B&W Studies, No. 7

B&W Studies, No. 7

Photo no. 7 in my new 14 image series. Another minimalist vibe with barren limbs stretching for the clouds. Bonus points if you spot the dragonfly. Eaves, Chris (May 20, 2019). B&W Studies, No. 7 [Photograph]. Lisle, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 100mm, […]

B&W Studies, No. 6

B&W Studies, No. 6

Photo no. 6 in my new 14 image series.

Today we’re going with a minimalist vibe with a single stalk of grass against an overcast sky.

  • Eaves, Chris (May 20, 2019). B&W Studies, No. 6 [Photograph]. Barrington, Ill. Shot on a Canon 6D at 100mm, 1/2000 sec., f10 at ISO1000.

B&W Studies, No. 5

B&W Studies, No. 5

Photo no. 5 in my new 14 image series. For a moment here we’re going to hop a few states south for a shot of northwest Arkansas. Those of you who follow me know I love a good S-curve in photography. It should be not […]

B&W Studies, No. 4

B&W Studies, No. 4

Photo no. 4 in my new 14 image series. I like how the red filter gives the sky and clouds instant drama and contrast. The clouds didn’t last long that day and were gone by the time I wrapped up shooting. Eaves, Chris (March 16, […]

B&W Studies, No. 3

B&W Studies, No. 3

Photo no. 3 in my new 14 image series.

If you stare at this image long enough, you’ll start to make out a tree-person wanting a hug.

  • Eaves, Chris (March 16, 2019). B&W Studies, No. 3 [Photograph]. Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Shot on a Canon 6D at 29mm, 1/200 sec., f6.3 at ISO100 with a red filter.
