It’s been a while …

It’s been nearly 18 months since I last posted. I haven’t been dormant during that span. I’ve still found moments to take images during my travels, and I’ll share some here throughout the year. I also have a few series left to finish, including my Edinburgh photos from a few summers ago. Life, career, family, and other hobbies have intervened, keeping my attention elsewhere.

I’ve also continued to convert my digital assets into physical ones. My office is now adorned with large, 20″x20″ photos in 24″x24″ gallery frames. Images to remind me of what I can accomplish and where I have been. Images to inspire me to find the next magical moment and capture, refine and share it.

The image here is of the iconic Yosemite Valley in California. As a child, I first visited there on a summer road trip from Central Illinois. I remember standing in this exact spot with an old Pentax 35mm film camera, taking a few photos while standing in awe at the scale and the beauty of the valley.

Last year, I returned. And while decades had passed, the park remained just as overwhelmingly beautiful as I’d remembered. As I drove around and snapped photos of the winter landscapes, I searched for this spot from my childhood memories. Not until I gave up and decided to head back did I find it, over my left shoulder, I saw it. This time, there were no crowds, just me and the scene. My brief two hours in the park had been worth the half-day of driving. Every minute in Yosemite is a gift.
