Cracking a Window

Part 9 of 17.  This back porch in New Orleans offers great ventilation, but not much in the way of water or bug protection.  Eaves, Chris (March 23, 2019). Cracking a Window [Photograph]. New Orleans, Louisiana. Shot on Canon 6D at 70mm, 1/4000 sec., f4 […]

Americana Still Life No. 3

Americana Still Life No. 3

This happy little tractor, parked among other derelict machinery, seems to exude personification. Eaves, Chris (March 11, 2018). Americana Still Life No. 3 [Photograph]. Elburn, Illinois. Shot on a Canon 6D at 267mm, 1/500, f11, at 400ISO

Silos & Storage

Silos & Storage

Another photo from a drive along the Fox River in winter. I love weather with personality, and days like this—with clouds and frigid cold—make it memorable.

  • Eaves, Chris (Feb. 13, 2019). Silos & Storage [Photograph]. Yorkville, Illinois. Shot on a Canon 6D at 17mm, 1/250 sec., f6.3, ISO 50.
Barn in Winter

Barn in Winter

I love a good-old-fashioned red barn on a snowy day. Nearby there are nearly 400 acres of horse pastures and trails that are soon to become part of the Cook County Forest Preserve system. Eaves, Chris (Jan. 26, 2019). Barn in Winter [Photograph]. Barrington Hills, Illinois. Shot […]

Haeger Water Tower

Haeger Water Tower

One of the more valuable parts of the property is the water tower, which was sold (I was told) to a company in California for $750,000. Originally the town or the company was thinking of tearing it down, but it was valuable as a cell […]

Apply at Office

Apply at Office

I goofed a bit on my development, as you can see by the bubble on the right side of the frame. It was my second roll ever developing myself, so mistakes were bound to happen. I’m amused by the fact that plant got so many walk-in job seekers at his door that they manufactured a giant sign to send them to a different entrance. Overall, though, the door is a sad reminder of the impact that cheap foreign labor had on this industry.

  • Eaves, Chris (Aug. 11, 2018). Apply at Office [Photograph]. East Dundee, Illinois. Shot on a Bronica SQ-A at 80mm, 1/125 sec., f4 on Ilford Delta Professional 100.

Haeger No. 7

Haeger No. 7

The second in my Haeger series, this one shows entrance No. 7. The old-school fire alarm bells give away the age of the buildings on this well-kept but shuttered property. It’s a shame to see small-scale manufacturers like Haeger collapse in the global economy. Eaves, […]

Haeger Series

Haeger Series

Today marks the first in a five-part, unauthorized series on Haeger Potteries. Formed in 1871, Haeger operated for 145 years in East Dundee, Illinois. Clay from the nearby Fox River supplied the plant, which got a business boon as a result of the Great Chicago […]

Framed

Framed

The last in this four-part series of photos about a truck. This one is more of a photographers’ photograph. There are so many frames within frames … it’s frames all the way down.

  • Eaves, Chris (July 23, 2018). Framed [Photograph]. Memphis, Tennessee. Shot on a Canon 6D at 40mm, 1/640 sec., f8.0, ISO200
Cabin Abandon

Cabin Abandon

Again, I’m not sure why it was left this way, or why the door was wide open, inviting a photo. Eaves, Chris (July 23, 2018). Cabin Abandon [Photograph]. Memphis, Tennessee. Shot on a Canon 6D at 17mm, 1/400 sec., f4.0, ISO200

Out of Work, II

Out of Work, II

The second in a four-part series, this one with an alternate angle of the truck. Eaves, Chris (July 23, 2018). Out of Work, II [Photograph]. Memphis, Tennessee. Shot on a Canon 6D at 17mm, 1/500 sec., f7.1, ISO200

Out of Work

Out of Work

Our summer weekend getaway in Memphis included a couple stops over at wonderful Shelby Farms Park. I don’t know why they retired this truck in the fashion they did (it still had a valid license plate on the front), but I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of it.

  • Eaves, Chris (July 23, 2018). Out of Work [Photograph]. Memphis, Tennessee. Shot on a Canon 6D at 17mm, 1/640 sec., f5.0, ISO200
Vacancy

Vacancy

This “hotel” in downtown Memphis left me scratching my head. Eaves, Chris (July 22, 2018). Vacancy [Photograph]. Memphis, Tennessee. Shot on a Canon 6D at 40mm, 1/1250 sec., f2.8, ISO200

Sentinel III

Sentinel III

The final one in my series on the abandoned Guánica lighthouse. This one I keep on my desk at work. Identical shot, but post-processed as a B&W image instead. Eaves, Chris (April 23, 2009). Sentinel III [Photograph]. Puerto Rico, U.S.A. Shot on a Canon Powershot […]

Sentinel II

Sentinel II

A slightly different take on this abandoned structure in Puerto Rico.

  • Eaves, Chris (April 23, 2009). Sentinel II [Photograph]. Puerto Rico, U.S.A. Shot on a Canon Powershot 880IS at 5mm, 1/400 sec., f2.8, ISO80
