Big Bend of Route No. 2

U.S. Route 2 runs through a beautiful pass in the Cascades, including this spot here in a big bend of the Skykomish River. Photos in this series will be a combination of photos and photos with text overlays. The overlays indicate content that’s also incorporated into my digital signage. Big Bend of Route No. 2…

  • Texaco Station

    Texaco Station

During its heyday, Route 66 would at times be clogged with bumper-to-bumper traffic. It’s easy to understand why so many service stations line the road. What’s more difficult to imagine is that in 1937 a pedestrian tunnel was built in nearby Odell, Ill., to allow the town’s churchgoers to attend Sunday services.

  • The Old AE & FRE Line

The Old AE & FRE Line

Photo no. 12 in my new 14 image series. Just your run-of-the-mill winter scene with deer prints and footprints. Well, except for that weird fat rut running down the middle of the trail. The snow that day was that horrid kind of slush that is impossible to walk in with boots and snowshoes alike. But…

Nested Bridges, No. 2 and No. 2-alt

Photo nos. 9 and 10 in my new 14 image series. Today we revisit a place I’d previously shot back in 2018. In that image, I’d focused on the summer sun’s rays slicing through the symmetry (but not quite perfectly). This winter I went back and took a different approach. In the first version, above,…

    Levee

Today kicks off a 17-part New Orleans series! As many of you know, I don’t settle for any one particular type of style. I take what interests me, and I publish what I think others might enjoy. And I’m often surprised at what resonates with you! And while I’m calling it a NOLA travel series,…

  • Forest Bend

    Forest Bend

The light breaking through the clouds gave me a chance to take a quick shot of the road, covered by the tree canopy on this dreary, dismal day. Eaves, Chris (Oct. 20, 2018). Forest Bend [Photograph]. Moraine Hills State Park, Illinois. Shot on a Canon 6D at 40mm, 1/125 sec., f5.6, ISO200

    Kentucky Road

Rain can make things just look better. Tree trunks darken. Roads shimmer. Here’s the view as we hiked down the bluff. Eaves, Chris (Sept. 3, 2010). Kentucky Road [Photograph]. Corbin, Kentucky. Shot on a Canon 40D at 90mm, 1/100 sec., f22, ISO800.

  • Montana Fields

    Montana Fields

On a dirt road, waaaay outside Bozeman, Montana, I made a questionable choice to leave the interstate. The road was paved, for a while, and it rained a bit. Then the road turned to gravel, the plain turned into a steep hill, and I suddenly realized I should have rented an SUV or a Subaru…
